Program Description:

Burren College of Art Arcadia
Study art on the grounds of a 16th-century castle in rural Ireland

If you are a budding artist with a yearning for inspirational, creative, and supportive collaboration to enhance your work, look no further than the highly respected Burren College of Art in the West of Ireland. With fewer than 55 students – all practicing artists – studying abroad at Burren College of Art offers an intensive and highly individualized experience. Liberation from rigid programming and the opportunity for intense focus has helped the many artists who have studied at the college to find their artistic voice.

Course offerings include a variety of studio art classes such as painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture amid the magnificent landscape of the Burren, an area that has long been an inspiration for artists of all genres because of its ethereal and intriguing beauty.

  • In addition to studio art courses, you may also choose courses in the liberal arts, such as Irish studies, art history, and creative writing.

  • Optional excursion to galleries and museums in London, Berlin, or Paris put your experience into the broader context of the art world and its global influences.

  • You’ll have your own dedicated studio spaces to which you have access 24/7.

  • Become part of the close-knit village community of Ballyvaughan, with its quaint shops, musical pubs, dramatic scenery, and friendly locals.

  • This program is open to students at the Junior or Senior level.

  • Virtual Internship Option: Replace one elective course with a virtual internship through Arcadia to add international professional experience to your resume. See the Internship Placement Guide for information about placement details.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
